A Young Perspective on the New Vision for Kolding

As a student in Kolding, I see many opportunities in the new vision for the city, but there are also aspects, where I believe we can do even more to create a vibrant and attractive urban environment – especially for young people.
One of my biggest wishes is to see Kolding evolve into a city, that feels more vibrant and connected. The reason why I like living in Kolding, is because of the people who together create culture. Being part of a volunteering organization enables me to be creative with other people outside of university, organize various events, meet new like-minded individuals, and foster a sense of belonging. I also enjoy the diverse cultural events, workshops, and the general creative environment that the city offers. I feel that culture for young people should be more supported.
For me, Kolding truly feels like home when its people and cultural activities are at the forefront. Without them, the city feels less inviting and lacks the vibrancy that makes it special. To enhance this, I think Kolding could benefit from a more clearly defined city center. A well-structured, cohesive downtown would create a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere, contributing to the hyggelige feeling I value so much.
Currently, shops, gathering places, and city life are spread out across a wide area, making the downtown less appealing. I miss the presence of a central square – a natural meeting point like those in cities such as Vejle or Odense. A lively and accessible central hub would not only make Kolding more inviting but also strengthen its sense of community, turning it into a city that truly feels alive.
I am excited about the plans to make the city greener, especially around the campus area. Bringing students from different educational institutions together in shared green spaces and meeting points will create better connections and a stronger study environment.
Right now, we are often separated, and many students – especially international ones – feel isolated. If we had shared recreational areas, green meeting spots, and maybe even a common cafeteria or café, it would make it much easier to form friendships across different study programs.
I also see great potential in developing better outdoor facilities. Right now, there are few options for sports and outdoor activities in the city. A larger green area with space for workouts, sports, and recreational activities would be a great addition – especially if it is centrally located for easy access.
Finally, I believe Kolding should do more to attract and retain young people after graduation. Many students would like to stay in the city, but this requires better opportunities for student jobs, networking, and housing. It is equally important to create a welcoming environment for international students and professionals, ensuring openness to employ people from diverse backgrounds. If we can create a stronger community and better conditions for students and young professionals, Kolding could become a city where more people choose to settle permanently.
I look forward to following the development of this new vision and hope, that the needs and wishes of young people will be a key part of the plans. Kolding has enormous potential, and with the right initiatives, the city can become an even better place to study, live, and work.
